18b Why Wrestle? (ERTR-2) Jun'58

ERTR-2 was the second Guardsmen set to feature Eric and Trefor. It was listed alongside ERTR-1in the1960 Royale Catalogue, as part of List 'A', which covered their 1958 releases.

The Royale Catalogue description simply describes the set as showing the two men wrestling, and was illustrated by the accompanying thumbnail image (above). The significance of the title is a mystery.

The description says they are wearing the same kit as ERTR-1, but both men wear shorts in ERTR-1, whereas, in the images we have of ERTR-2, including the thumbnail above, one of the men, probably Eric*, is wearing Horse Guard's riding pants (breeches) with the distinctive, light-coloured, protective patch on the inside of the legs. The distinctive, heavy motorcycle riding boots, paired with them here, appear in both sets.

*Eric can be identified initially by these boots, which he wears in both sets. There's a good enough sight of the profile of his shorts-clad assailant in these images to confirm that he is Trefor. I have stuck to the Welsh spelling of Trevor in this series, Royale used both forms.

The Catalogue description tells us there were 24 images in the set, but we only have 3 of them, including a better copy of the thumbnail image. All 3 are part of the 'P' collection of photographs (Source 7)
