05 Airman Gym Spanking, BR-2 Hussar (1962-3)

A story of a muscular RAF gymnast being trained by a Navy instructor 

who is a merciless disciplinarian - until the worm turns

There is a catalogue thumbnail sheet for the set (below) which tells us there are 30 pictures in all and gives their sequence, The mitchmen Royale Archive has all 30 pictures in the set.

 

Peter George plays the benighted gymnast, with a mature-looking Tom Harding as the hard-line Navy Trainer.

The official title is not known by me, Sailor Al called this series 'Gym' and I've also seen it called 'Navy Gym' which might conceivably been the original title. Since the athlete's vest in this series bears a badge with an eagle similar in style to that used by the RAF, I have taken it to mean that he is playing an airman and used that as my own, more descriptive title, for the series.

On the thumbnail sheet below, it's labelled '2-BR'. A Hussar Catalogue we have unearthed, has revealed that this is a Hussar set designation. B seems to be their code for Peter, dating it to 1962 or 63. That would account for Tom Harding's more mature appearance.

 

This set came to me from the British Photographer 'Originals' collection. I have not found any trace of it on the internet or in the beefcake publications Hussar commonly used.It's implied that there's also a 1-BR but I haven't seen it. 

It's interesting to see that a previous owner of this sheet seems to have picked out 

his favourite pictures - 5, 12, 16, 17, 23, 25 and 26. Good choice!
