Royale Catalogue Thumbnail for 'TEDS' |
Royale's 'TEDS' photo set features a fight between a Sailor and a Teddy Boy
who attacks him with a cosh. It which ends up with the mugger getting caned.
Ian MacAllister stars as the Teddy Boy and Stanley Free* as the Sailor.
Stan Free looks particularly good in tight bell-bottoms and shows some ability to act.

Background Information
TEDS was published in Apr 1959 (in Royale Catalogue, List 7)
There were 24 pictures in the original set, the mitchmen Royale Archive currently has 14 of them, a mixture of good and relatively poor quality but reasonably balanced between the spanking element and the opening confrontation and fight. The majority of the good quality images come from the British Photographers Originals Collection (Ref 1).
*Royale's catalogue description gives the sailor the name Barry Cutts but I've not come across that name anywhere else in their output and it's obviously the man named as Stanley Free in other Royale beefcake pictures (see example below), he also appears under that name in another Royale photo storyette.
To add to the confusion, a spread featuring the story appeared in 'Man Alive' No 7 (Oct 59) and named Stan Free as the sailor but called the Teddy Boy 'Ted Richards', another name I've not come across anywhere else in Royale records.
